Somewhere, he felt a cool draft. He
smiled. If he but followed it, he would find his way out. He drew his
knife, prepared for whateverāwhoeverāhe might find.

āHow do you know
me?ā Niall asked.
āThe other one!ā Hugh looked wildly
around the chapel. āWho was he?ā
The old monk, his
hand pressed to his breast, wheezed, āShawn will take care of him.ā
āYou were with Amy.ā Niall pulled the monk to his feet more forcefully than heād intended. Shame washed over him thinking of an elderly priest, far away in England. āMy apologies, Brother. Forgive me.ā He ushered him to a pew and helped him sit down.
āWho was he?ā the Laird demanded.
āWho is he?ā He turned to
Niall. āIs he here or there? Was that Amy?ā
āAye,ā Niall
said tightly. āāTwas Amy.ā
āHeās from
Shawnās time, then? But if this monk crossed, did he, too?ā
āDid he?ā Niall
asked the monk. āWho is he?ā
