He listened. Only silence came to him in the unending dark.

Whoever was above—Shawn or the men of medieval Glenmirril—they had not followed him this far. He felt the walls, felt a recess, and backed into it, waiting.

He would find his way, somehow, out of this pitch-black maze. He would find what time he was in, and proceed from there.
