July has been a busy month. We had a wedding at the end of June. With the warm weather, planting kicked into high gear. Also--weeding. When plants grow, weeds grow! This year we introduced raised garden beds, which have greatly helped with the never-ending weeding issue in our rather large garden.

We've also been dealing with predators who took several of our newborn bunnies and six of our chickens, including our first and favorite rooster, Clark, a Speckled Sussex. All of this required relocating the bunnies and their mother to a safer place in our new livestock trailer and stapling a great deal more hardware cloth and poultry netting closing off the attic area of the barn, which seems to have finally stopped the predator.

Somewhere in all of this, we've had Books & Brews. Our monthly podcast, broadcast on many podcast sites, has featured the main program, in which we hear three readings from an author, pairing a drink to each reading. But we also do Books & Brews Light which goes up on YouTube, in which we focus more on one reading and the interview with the author.

This month's Books and Brews podcast highlighted three authors from Books and Brews Light:

  • Tara Hodgson with her time travel novel of two high school students, twenty years, who speak with each other about life in high school--with and without today's social media and technology.

  • Calvin Schwartz who talks about the lessons he learned from a billionaire and his miracle healing

  • Anne-Marie Amiels whose cozy mystery focuses on a haunted theater and Edwin Booth, famous actor of his time and brother of the infamous John Wilkes Booth.

Each of their full interviews can be found at our youtube channel @booksandbrews
