If You Haven't Already...
I invite you to stop by Books & Brews
to meet authors from around the world and hear about the many great books they're writing! You may find your next favorite author.
Books & Brews started with me doing a one hour interview each month with an author, while Michael Agnew, Minnesota's first beer cicerone, paired beers to their readings. We did six months at a radio station in the Minneapolis suburbs, and a few months doing a live event in which guests joined us to sample the beer with us, before starting our podcast in April of 2017, which allowed us to invite authors from all over the world.
In 2022, Chris Powell took over co-hosting duties and now usually pairs cocktails to authors' readings. In 2024, I added Books & Brews Lite. We are now approaching almost 120 authors we've interviewed!
We've hosted authors in virtually every genre--romance to horror, novels on alien abduction, musician-authors of the paranormal and an author writing mysteries always set in the world of magic! We've explored the worlds of the paranormal, futuristic settings, military memoirs, time travel, sci-fi, historical fiction, and more.
We've interviewed authors of non-fiction on the history of Minnesota, business, wealth, and raising boys. We've talked with authors of poetry.
We've talked with MB Zucker who published his first novels based on American presidents, at 15, and met Dan Coonan whose fantastical book Presidential Spirits, imagines a mysterious pub in the White House where current and past presidents meet over a pint or a cocktail. We've seen magic tricks from Bob Miller, heard the story of how Bob Heath was briefly a prisoner of Chaing Kai-Shek at the age of 8! We learned about tetrachromatics from PTL Perrin, hauntings from Peter Andrew Sacco and Libby Tucker, novels of alien abduction -- and many of the actual stories about that -- from Stephanie Sanders-Jacob and Dona Masi, met a mortician who talks to the dead. and traveled in time to the era of the Vikings.
We've stepped into the life of a man who rescues a strange woman found on the beach, only to find himself in a world of dragons with the husband and wife writing team Laurie and Michael Kehoe and into the life of RV'ing detectives written by sisters-in-law writing as MJ Williams.
We've heard amazing and poignant true stories of:
- The 40 Thieves of Saipan, about an elite unit of Marine snipers who would go behind enemy lines, told by Cynthia Kraak and Joseph Tachovsky, son of the leader of that unit
- of Martha Nasch, committed to an insane asylum, who claimed not to have eaten in seven years, as told by her daughter and granddaughter Janelle Molony and Jodi Nasch Decker,
- the medical memoir of dealing with his wife's complex illnesses by Chris R. Powell
- Kathy Murray's story of leaving a corporate job to live in Germany and becoming the cheer coach to girls who didn't want to be there--a true-life Mighty Ducks story
- John Graham who was with the first--and last--team to ever scale Denali's dangerous north wall
- the story of Michael Modzelewski, son of an NFL player, whose decision to spend two years alone in Alaska's wilderness accidentally launched him into being Cosmo's Mr. November
If you love reading, if you love exploring new worlds, if you love finding new authors, Books & Brews is the place to meet authors and find books!
