Gabriel's Horn Book Club

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the Gabriel's Horn Book Club on Zoom!

We kicked off our first week tonight with Shattered Faith by Rebecca May Hope. It was a fun meeting for just over an hour talking about Rebecca's novella. It begins when Faith's daughter, Isme, has strange visions of coyotes standing on their hind legs outside the living room window, and shortly after, a black cat with blue eyes. Black cats never have blue eyes, Faith tells her daughter, but Isme insists this is what she saw. On investigating, Faith discovers blue sheets on her bed--which has never had blue sheets--and a long black hair.

With her husband, Lance, out of town for a work convention, Faith is forced to ask hard questions about what is happening in her marriage--as she's torn between conflicting advice.

We enjoyed talking with Rebecca, the author on a number of subjects: how quickly should Faith have confronted Lance or whether she jumped to conclusions, the question of people experiencing visions, how often such things happen and what it means. How does loss of a child, or any other disaster, typically affect a couple?

We talked about some of Rebecca's own experiences that led to this story and some of our own that made it very relatable.

Shattered Faith is Rebecca's first published novella. It won first place in the American Christian Fiction Writers First Impressions Contest in 2017 in the novella category and was one of three novellas nominated by the ACFW for the prestigious Genesis Award in 2018.

Our weekly book club will be held on Zoom and are free and open to the public. You can attend if you've read the book of the week or even if you're interested in reading the book of the week. Most weeks, the author will be present.
