Author Adrienne Thompson

Please welcome today Adrienne Thompson, author of Been So Long and Blues Day.

Q. Tell us a little bit about your book.

is an edgy inspirational romance novel about a woman in a long-term relationship with a married man with whom she has two sons. She’s coasting along life’s highway and is pretty happy until a face from her past reappears.

Q. What excites you most about your book’s topic? Why did you choose it?

I am most excited about the diverse case of characters and the depth of the story. It delves much deeper than just the main character’s relationship with these two men. I chose the topic because I felt it was timely and I’m fascinated by diverse cultures.

Q. How long did the book take you from start to finish?

It took me about 2 months. I wrote this book shortly after moving to a new town. We had a lot of snow and I was unable to get to my job, so I had ample time to write.

Q. What aspect of writing the book did you find particularly challenging?

Being able to step away and take a break from writing. When I’m writing I’m in a zone and I tend to neglect other things.

Q. Did you seek the support of a writer’s group or class?

Other than the English and Lit classes I took in college (as requirements), no, I didn’t.

Q. What surprised you the most about the book writing process?

That people actually like my work! For so long, I kept my work to myself, afraid that no one would like it.

Q. Did you have any favorite experiences when writing your book?

I love seeing a story unfold beneath my fingertips as I peck away at the computer. I’m always amazed at the twists and turns of a story as it begins to take on it’s own life.

Q. What do you hope your readers will gain from reading your book?

I hope that they will learn the underlying lessons of the story and I also hope they’ll love it enough to want to read more of my work :)

Q. What projects are you currently working on?

My 3rd novel, When You’ve Been Blessed (Feels Like Heaven) is at the editor’s, so I’m looking forward to releasing it this spring. I’m also working on Little Sister, a companion novel to Been So Long.

Q. Is writing your sole career? If not, what else do you do?

No, when I’m not writing, I work as a Registered Nurse.

Q. What tips would you offer to anyone writing fiction for the first time?

Listen to the voices of the characters. Let them dictate the story and you can’t go wrong.

Q. Did you do any research for your books, or did you write from experience?

A little of both. I love to research anything and everything, so when research is necessary,
I really enjoy it. I also write from my own life experiences and those of the people around me.

Q. How did you come up with your title?

I always incorporate music in my books by using song titles as chapter titles. Been so Long is the title of an Anita Baker song that I happen to love and it also very adequately describes some of the main character’s life events.

Q. What books have influenced you the most?

The Color Purple by Alice Walker and Waiting to Exhale by Terry McMillan. Also, I was a big fan of the Sweet Dreams romance series when I was a teenager.

Q. What can we look forward to in your next book?

Drama, Inspiration, Love, and of course, Romance!

Q. Is there anything we haven’t covered that you would like to include?

I’d like to thank Laura Vosika for having me and the readers for reading my work!!

Author Bio:

Married at sixteen, a mother twice by seventeen, and thrice a mother and divorced by twenty-four, Adrienne Thompson is no stranger to adversity. Not your typical teenage mother, she went on to complete her college degree and to earn her nursing license. She attributes God’s faithfulness as the catalyst for her success in life. Now, having raised two children as a divorced mother, with a third fast approaching adulthood, she is sharing a long hidden talent and passion with the world. Using the lessons that life has so expertly taught her as a guideline (betrayal, abusive relationships, self-esteem issues, witnessing the deteriorating effects of drug abuse), she has created stories that will both entertain and inspire the reader.
